The Green Party of England & Wales has been steadily growing support over the past few years. We now have over 100 councillors across England and Wales, while also having a member of the House of Lords, 2 MEPS and 2 members of the London Assembly. We currently have no members of the House of Commons. In Scotland, we have 2 MSPs and in Northern Ireland we have 1 member of the Assembly. At present there are only 3 Green councillors in the whole North-East of England. Nic Best represents Morpeth North Central ward on Morpeth Town Council. Duncan Couchman represents Mickley ward on Prudhoe Town Council. John Hartshorne represents the people of Otterburn Parish Council. We want to see many more Green councillors across the North-East. Our friends in Newcastle and South Tyneside have made a fantastic start, and in 2007, North Tyneside matched their achievements by fielding its first ever Green candidate (Martin Collins, Wallsend ward). Over the coming years, we want to see many more Greens standing as candidates in North Tyneside, not only for local elections, but also at Mayoral, General and even European level so as many people as possible have the opportunity to vote Green. Across North Tyneside, the borough is divided into 20 wards, with 3 councillors representing each ward. A third of the council is elected each year, (one councillor from every ward), and in the fourth year the mayoral election takes place. The map of the borough is shown below, along with which party's councillors represent which area. All of the wards represent the area covered by the directly-elected mayor of North Tyneside. These wards also represent the makeup of the two parliamentary constituencies in North Tyneside, which are in fact North Tyneside and Tynemouth. North Tyneside constituency is covered by the wards of Battle Hill, Benton, Camperdown, Howdon, Killingworth, Longbenton, Northumberland, Riverside, Wallsend and Weetslade.
Tynemouth constituency is covered by the wards of Chirton, Collingwood, Cullercoats, Monkseaton North, Monkseaton South, Preston, St Mary's, Tynemouth, Valley and Whitley Bay.
